thirty, flirty and thriving

Pardon me for being so cliche but I had a moment of what was either clarity or pms, I'm not sure.
I don't know about any of you, but I constantly struggle with enjoying the now. I always think that something or someone will make the future better. The movie 13 going on 30 came to my mind the other day as I was feeling this. Little 13 year old Jenna cries to her mom "I want to be thirty, flirty and thriving". When her wish comes true, it is all too much for her and she realizes all that she left behind. There is a scene where she goes back home to see her parents and a really good Billy Joel song plays.
I cry every time I see it.
I feel as though this is my theme song right now.
I need to slow down, and not be so hard on myself.
So often I want to be in a different place in my life.
I want my business up and running.
I want a home and a garden.
I want kids.
I want to travel.
I want what it seems like everyone around me has.
That is why this song helps ground me
and remind me to slow down, Vienna waits for me.

Read the lyrics below.
They might bring you comfort too.

Slow down you crazy child
You're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart tell me why
Are you still so afraid?
Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out
You got so much to do and only
So many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
When will you realize...Vienna waits for you

Slow down you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight)
Too bad but it's the life you lead
You're so ahead of yourself
That you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong
You know you can't always see when you're right(you're right)

You got your passion you got your pride
But don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize
Vienna waits for you

Slow down you crazy child
Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while
It's alright you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize...
Vienna waits for you.

And you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through

Why don't you realize...Vienna waits for you
When will you realize...Vienna waits for you

Thank you for the reminder. I think we all feel this way at times.

Another song with the same sentiment is "Your Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins. I cry every time I hear it on the radio:

She was staring out that window, of that SUV
Complaining, saying I can't wait to turn 18
She said I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said I was just like you

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her It's a nice place
She says It'll do for now
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says Baby just slow down

'Cause You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
She keeps apologizin'
He says they don't bother me
I've got 2 babies of my own
One's 36, one's 23
Huh, it's hard to believe

But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna miss this
Yeah, you're gonna miss this
